The Avenger - Chapter 25. Guylhom - Rude awakening

Gradually we are getting closer to the end, much to cram into one chapter. Difficulty also put together all these little bits of texts written over the routes. More and more connections between the characters as complex as writing the chapters, do not say too much and do not forget that whatever happens there will not influence only one point of view.

Chapter XXV. Guylhom - Rude awakening

- Mother?
- Guylhom, hang up my child.
- I'm not made for that mother. I want to go. Where are you?
Guylhom could not see it but he felt its presence.
- Thou canst not my son. You no longer belong, you have a mission.
- If you like mom, I miss you so much.
- Thou must suffer still my son, I'm sorry, feel good.
- Mother, help me!
- my little

... He knew she was crying and he would cry too if it was not too bad.

pain, he had never known so strong. She drummed to his temples. Or maybe it was the music Burganne. " Music? "It's a big word for this deafening din that accompanied them from morning till night: drums, horns, flute and saints only knew what else. Never stopped they not? Not a moment's rest, he began to hate the Burgan same night the guards were still the way to play an instrument. For weeks he lay now, his arms still bound behind his back, ostensibly to prevent him from scratching his face but he was and remained a prisoner even though his face scratched indeed atrociously. The alarm had yet been much more difficult.

He screamed and laughed like a madman when he could no longer screaming. And Bam and Bam Bam and that continued outside the drums or maybe it was his head would burst. His mind was clouded even more sure it was him crying. Maybe it was another wounded. He kept screaming and he wanted him to shut up but he could not speak. He had a bad dog, his mouth is constantly filled with hot liquid and ferrous. " SHUT UP! "but he did think that the two bursts pain. We kept him on the spot but he did not see that, maybe he was just too weak? A squeaky voice and strong yet imposed itself.
- Come out fool, you've done enough damage like that! The shape
entered and drove in another before going to sing. Meanwhile the other garish did not shut his mouth. They complete on behalf of the Saints!
He was hot or cold shoulder, he no longer knew his body was shivering he was certain. Does it hurt, especially his head, he would have sworn was ready to explode, and it was pulsating drumming. Maybe were what those damned Indians and their music.
Why was it so dark? A man nearly choked him " That's impossible! "
squeaky voice said
- The gods alone decide what is possible or not. What seems impossible is really to be as pale as you. Get out of here before I cleaned the wound, it will be worse .
Man does not tell him twice. What was she talking wound? Was there any talk of him or the other?
He offered also just another? Anyway it was time to take care of him. He tried to grin but the pain made him faint. He woke up and still singing the old. As if he needed it. He wanted him to be quiet intimate but failed to produce a single sound.
He woke up several times and then fell unconscious. He seemed to have less pain or maybe it was just used it. One moment he realized that he put a bandage around his head, itch and he wanted to discuss but stunned by the pain he fell asleep for good this time.

He awoke much later, he could not say how much time had passed but hunger tormented him. The old woman had returned and tried to make him drink water. He failed to utter a word to say what? Thank you for messed up but kept alive?
It was voiceless, voice hoarse, broken to have cried too. It took several visits she finally gave her soup. She also changed the bandages, she was withdrawing those were blood red and only the horrible feeling when the tear off from his face he confirmed that it was his. It did not really know where he was, it was burganne, it was certain but he could not see it well, it was so dark in here. In addition she no longer spoke as if the words cost him too much. One morning a man who entered, he was tall and strong, his beard made him look fierce. He put knee, meant something but choked and wept. The scene was so unlikely that Guylhom thought he had dreamed.

He realized he was blind but he still had this vision capability secondary he did not know what miracle. He knew that barred his eyes sore eyes and nose, he had not yet been able to touch it but he felt other do. The simple act of walking again seemed like a miracle in itself. The Burgan had come to return his armor. Their efforts could not remove coarse bruises that tarnished the luster or the missing pieces on the gorget. His gaze traveled the metal skinned, wondering how anyone could survive such blows. Royan Saint really needed to be at his side. By cons, he had been spared by the snide remarks of Hadera, perhaps his wound had healed her of her madness. The blond man entered and sat cross-legged, he saw an air Guylhom hesitant.
- Me Ah nuf. The man was trying somehow to express themselves in a liudmarkien more than rudimentary.
His accent was terrible and Guylhom could not help him answer Burgan although it had no idea how he had learned the language.
- I understand your dialect, Arnulf .
Man does not seem surprised, just tired.
- I must confess something to a time when my name I thought was ridiculous might change for worse. Some call me the already too proud Arnulf Arnulf soft, Arnulf decline. I do not have forgiveness of my people and your survival. I offer So my life back, but before I want you to listen to me.
Guylhom had little choice and the long period in bed made him eager for company.
- The gods have spoken. Do not make this head there, they did more than talk to you so that you survive the blows of axes. No matter how you call them or the mysteries that surround them, land that rumbles and wakes the gods want me to soothe.
Guylhom moved nervously, he did not know exactly what had happened and was not sure you want to know. Remains that it was inflated from this wild talk theology when he saw probably still an act of God at every clap of thunder in the sky.
- survival Burgan and perhaps your own people is at stake An army stepped on our land, killing everything in its path. Men like you!
- Aelor? Aelor you saw?
The man handed her a moment and put his hand in a short ax hanging at his side before changing his mind.
- Seen? No, but many of my people died to stop his advance. So many died for nothing, he has achieved his goal and now we are left with much time.
- His goal for what purpose? And then why do you say we? What do I see in all this?
- The gods told me to find the glittering knight.
- And you think I'm that ... glittering knight? All because of the armor?
- There is clearly not the armor. You killed nearly ten Burgan you alone and you survive three ax in the face.
- Whatever you believe, I am no longer able to do much now. What qu'Aelor to have in your stories of doom?

- I'm not sure, the shamans say he is trying to kill our gods or take their place. In any case he is fighting Earth-Who Scold and we need to stop before the next winter solstice.
- Your mystic gibberish gives me a headache, which is Earth-Who Scold, how god is wrong?

- This is not a god, a place, the cradle of the gods, the original garden. A sacred, forbidden to mortals.
- The Beyond? This is a forest disaster? The writing is formal.

man raised his head, a grimace distorting his face:
- You really want to go see for yourself?
- I guess not, But you're heading south why? Why attack us while you're supposedly a divine mission to counter a threat in the north?

- I've already said, Southerner, I had to find you. I realized that you were full battle, it was too late for you .... And my quest does not end there.
- Whether you are told the gods about me?

man whispered
- Nothing really useful, the gods seem to mock us. We're just toys in their hands. All I know is I have yet to find a virgin bloody.
- Do it has a special meaning? I mean this blank is not so difficult to find if?
- You do not understand, is a divine mission, I find people marked by the gods themselves. Beings out of the ordinary. Mere mortals can not overcome Aelor.
- You do not believe all the same stories of magic and
... - .... And immortal?

Arnulf looked into his eyes now. Guylhom swallowed.
- It's impossible ...
- The rules of this world are abused. I'd much rather skip all that and stay with my children.
- What will you do then?
- I do not know. My authority is challenged, let live enemies is not a habit burganne, some see it as a sign of weakness, I must first address this problem. I had hoped you would know the virgin bloody.
- my men?
- All those who accompanied you are feasting in the company of gods, the others fled before our arrival. They joined forces more substantial and harass us constantly. Maybe you could talk to them?

Guylhom shook his head.
- I have no authority over these men. How do I ask them to consider you as a friend then you have slaughtered so many of them for decades? How to invoke my clerical status while I obviously been defeated? I can not I'm sorry.
The blond man stood up and pulled a long knife from a sheath attached to his thigh. Guylhom was cringe but he just untie him.
- You'll feel better as well, but beware, Wiley said if she saw you scratching your scars once you ellle sausage again until the end of the world.
- The old woman who took care of me?
asked you it by massaging the wrist.
The man laughed.
- Do not call it before it if you value your life. Wiley-Dream-bites which is the shaman of the tribe of the Lions and I am sure she will find a way to end your immortality.
- This is not proven, I'm not the first to survive a head injury.
- Three head injuries, plus you have a sword scar on the plexus.

By reflex, Guylhom, touched the spot, he felt so vulnerable to Burgan. Did they know all about him?
- You're free to go wherever you want, but do not get away camp. The iron men roam.
man greeted him with an intense look before exiting. So he took advantage of the occasion, donned his armor and went out for the first time in ages. What a shock, men and women half naked, exotic animals in pastures. The landscape he was not familiar, the plain was gloomy, rare tufts of grass gray marked the ground every few steps off the ground became more spongy and there were numerous puddles. He wandered for over an hour in the camp, the men gazed strangely and did not meet its signs heads polite. He discovered
while other prisoners, hundreds of civilians were herded into a fenced area. He went to observe them better, the guards would not let him do it. Most of the prisoners seemed to cut down, dirty and wore disparate pieces of armor. "Men a militia or bandits . "Thought he explains. When they saw him, they came and asked his help and blessing. Some hesitated, looking at his face, but most seemed relieved to see a knight of Saint Royan, a public figure to turn to. Burgan guards came on the alert, ready to calm the unrest. Guylhom appeased with a gesture without even thinking that they did not listen. He realized quickly that the two groups did not understand. The prisoners did not know what awaited them and the guards did not know if these men and women represented a real threat. A man, skinny, tall, shoulder length hair, her eyes falling in approached. It was apparently the leader of the gang, two women and a man accompanied him, had no air comfortable even if women had a certain charm. "Especially the younger " thought he explains.
- Prisoner ? the man asked bluntly.
- I'm Guylhom of Liudmark, Knight immaculate ...
- Yeah not bother to bow and scrape, we see a hundred yards
who you are.
Guylhom had a hard time understanding the hostility of man, but he decided to try to reassure others who listened.
- The Burgan not want you no harm, they are in search ...
- Like you they have not hurt you?

Guylhom winced and turned to the man
- You?
- What do you care?

The young redhead came up and asked him a hand in the back before turning to Guylhom.
- Do not please him sir, Saymar is feeling awful since it is a prisoner.
- My mood? But what you meddle?
- I do not know you, I do not know how you came into the hands burgannes or what you've been through. I just moved to act as an interpreter for your living conditions are improving. Perhaps you will agree they even let you go?
- In the arms of these jerks liudmarkiens? No thank you.
- You fight liudmarkiens? Why?

A man carrying a large gash said
- These bastards kidnapped the princess Orlamünde.
Saymar raised an eyebrow with an air of wry but said nothing.
- guaranteed My father had nothing to do with it.
- You are the son of that junk?

Saymar had already pulled out a knife and pointed at the throat of Guylhom.
What he saw in the eyes of the man froze, a touch of madness but also fierce determination and a total disdain of life.
- Stop. I am a friend ...
- I have enough friends like that, thank you.
- It's not my case, apparently.

The man suddenly looked amused and relaxed a little pressure of his blade.
- Well, priests are afraid of loneliness now, we've seen everything. What's Your Story?
- It'll be along to tell.
- Yeah, join us tonight with something to drink and no cat piss! We perhaps have to tell our troubles.

He turned away as if nothing had happened. The others smiled, the man was not as hard as it looked or what kind of shrapnel were common here.
Guylhom a moment wondered if he would learn something interesting tonight, they had a relationship with Aelor too? Who knows? He went in search of an alcohol loosen tongues.

The Avenger - Chapter 24. Orlamünde - Talks

A chapter written little piece by piece as time allows. The end has long been weighed, I had to be sure of the layout of my last chapters, plus the approach end I must be cautious and harder it is to let me go free.
also difficult not to write everything in one go without having the text in front (in transport for example) it takes me sometimes rewrite parts, rearrangement text so that everything is connected properly. I suppose that the chapter will gain fluency over the proofreading is therefore a first draft.

Chapter XXIV. Orlamünde - Talks

Orlamünde sat on a stone bench in the gardens overlooking the city wolves. The sun warmed his skin white and she closed her eyes to enjoy its rays. She could not remember the last time she was so calm and serene. She leaned back, resting on his arms, the sun caressing her delicate neck. Birds hopped from branch to branch in the flowering bushes. Spring was here, finally! She smiled gently while a gentle breeze came to the thrill.
She savored this moment of rest because she suspected she would not have another before long even if we were now with onions for her. She was entitled to the most beautiful remains of the city and the wealthy merchants and nobles who had not fled the city were cooling their heels outside his door. Even the wounded were embarrassed to see her now. He had just two words to the enemy to disrupt everyday life.
- Welcome Princess.

How did they know? She had no idea but no way to deny the facts then she noticed his face light up all his companions. She did not know exactly if it gave him any advantage in negotiations. In fact, she did not even want to participate but they all insisted, even the doctor who was terius more than enough to have his assistant make the wounded as anxious and excited. She wanted a little destiny to push forward and never give him a chance to live a normal life.
A maid entered the garden and she sighed, expecting to return to the harsh reality. The

Prince Florian was affable but his eyes made him shudder. He devoured the eye and you would have thought that it was he who had called. She had watched him carefully, looking for a way indicate that it was he who ordered his abduction as she thought, but it obviously did not intend to speak in public. At his side stood a clique of nobles equally puffed up with pride as each other, she was so used to the court her father that she could recognize them from afar. More surprising was the presence of a young man in armor who stared at her with an air of candid and blushed every time she raised her eyes to his side with a beautiful blonde who corresponded almost perfectly with the image that was the handsome prince Orlamünde it should have marry one day. Finally it was in a fairytale. It reminded him that he sang the songs her mother when she was young. Making melancholy, she began to sing:
" Moun pair to me mandado bos
Dins lob bones, pulley bos
Ven passar gay chivalier
D'u poutoun has surprio
Rear Tiretz you chivalier ... "It

is the braided hair, singing a tear at the corner of the eye. He missed his mother, his whole family in fact his father too, despite what he had done. She knew he loved in his own way but she also knew she would be entitled to any mercy from him, no mitigating circumstances. Maybe she could come back and resume a normal life? After all, she was still a virgin in some way. But the king would be willing to take the risk of returning a girl who had disappeared over a year and that no one can vouch?

She sighed and stood up while the maid that she was waiting for a signal to speak. Orlamünde felt the full weight of loneliness. She had no friends here, no one with whom to share things and having experienced a world where it was not a princess made him understand that she had always been alone, terribly alone. The maid was to have twice his age, wrinkled, damaged hair and pulled back too began to turn white, she nodded her head allowing it to speak.
- Preparations for the meeting are completed your majesty. Councillor Jehan asked if you want to inspect before tonight?
- Decline the invitation, tell him that I give him confidence to keep me safe.
She did not even know who was the advisor Jehan. She had not seen a single adviser throughout the seat and yet it seems that the city was filled whether to believe all those who offered his services now. It does not really feared for her life she hoped to have sent a clear message to Prince Florian
- I invite you to talks on neutral ground in a week. Civilians suffer from your unwarranted attack and it is important to resolve this conflict diplomatically.
- Although your status princess seems agreed by all, even if you have not provided any evidence, it is important whether you are speaking of the Kingdoms of the South. At last the king Kylios is still alive. had noted a noble liudmarkien an obsequious tone.
- I speak on behalf of the citizens of Pylos and that should suffice. she replied, dryly.
- You know you're not in a position to demand anything? Had added the prince.
- You know you live only because I granted you permission. Had she replied in a tone of false playful. Men
site had become livid, but the prince who had taken a bit more red color under threat. All they had never occurred to her to use her powers at bay. It was also not safe as it can but the important thing was that they believe in the can.
- In that case why not have done that? asked the blond man with a wry smile.
- Perhaps because unlike some here, I prefer dialogue.
- What do you want? cut the prince.
- As I have earlier, a neutral zone will be prepared at an equal distance from the ramparts and your troops and I think it would be in the interest of both parties to come and discuss a peace agreement. It would be appropriate to restrain your belligerence and come ask us what you really want.
Florian Liudmark did not used to being led by the nose and it showed, he winced more than once during his speech and he seemed to think the chances that it would eliminate any on.
She pretended to leave and added:
- Oh you do not know it that if I knew my father threatened by your troops would be forced to declare war on you. It is therefore appropriate that the bombing stops immediately.
She thought she had made a blunder because the men present understood that Kylios Forcefer was not yet aware that her daughter was alive. Yet there were already had too many witnesses for it to remain a secret for long and nobody had the courage to give the order to exterminate a peaceful mission led by a princess. Probably rightly.

the agreed day, the delegation of Pylos was ready before the main doors. Population came in numbers to attend a historic moment they knew. Wealthy merchants had put all their finery. Orlamünde led the procession in his red satin robe, Captain Jean at his side. This was probably the only man who did not accompany him for his personal benefit, all other boasted to defend areas that they had barely known. One maritime trade, the other imports, the third in cash and so on, even the representative of the people did not seem to have never visited the slums.
It should have been more careful about the composition of the delegation but we did it had not really let the occasion. They reached the tent first, Prince Florian and his followers was not forthcoming as any self-respecting monarch. Orlamünde already enraged and greetings were cold but she was especially surprised when he presented the young captain whom she had seen a week earlier.
- Here Captain Theo Montfaucon
- Montfaucon? They are not vassals of the South?
- They were in effect.

What had happened, then that things have changed so much in the South? The young man had he joined the Liudmark with his family. Other families they had betrayed his father?
was bad news and yet everything went from bad to worse. While she hoped to raise the siege against a simple trade agreement or even by threatening armies of his father, had proved Liudmarkiens greedier than reasonable. They demanded the establishment of an occupying force and in Pylos on the coast, ostensibly to control the flow of steel from the islands in summer. Moreover, they had the nerve to ask for monetary relief for losses during the assaults. Orlamünde was tired, got up and said a cold voice:
- You seem to take better yourself comfortable at the table as a battlefield. It might be appropriate to recall that you are the offenders here.
was silence in the hostile declaration and the prince rose, red-faced.
- I'm sure that Princess REE-an-ge-re will have something to offer that will please both parties. Your family is so rich that it will surely take over this small contribution to peace ...
The blond man, a certain Roland, who accompanied Montfaucon was being picking his nails with a knife as if this did not interest him, yet he raised his head and flung nonchalantly.
- The princess may prefer a .... Commitment to ensure sustainable peace
She did not see coming but it was certain that the man had planned his speech long. She glared at him ready to fight back but the prince is ahead with an evil smile.
- It is certain that the house Liudmark is honored by the proposed alliance between our two families. I am impressed by the gift of yourself to avoid heavy taxes to the people of Pylos which has already suffered too much. I'm sure your father will be more than happy to have so much good news in so little time.
- You are a pig. Is she whispered .
But the damage was done, the majority of his own delegation already considered the idea of marriage as the best solution that would avoid spending a single penny and even better not to levy new taxes against a people already hard hit. They went back more popular than ever and turn the case to their advantage for the people rejoice such a party and forgetting his troubles. We do it not asked his opinion, despite all she had done so because in the end, she was a woman. They expected her to accept without hesitation to save a good agreement between the two peoples that would ensure a consistent flow of money for everyone present.
She looked at the men around her and later, the soldiers liudmarkienne, men and even men, they must have families too. They seemed tired and worried. What did they make this war? Peace would it be more interesting for everyone? Even for her, if Florian Liudmark not match not really his ideal chivalric worst she could meet his father could have married an old noble and just as the prince would have required it to be burned for witchcraft. It was not even certain that his gift comes from one of the Saints, perhaps it was really marked by the horned god.
remained that if his suspicions were justified, the prince was far from being a very commendable and she shuddered at the idea that he could touch. Since Devian had "breached" it could no longer bear the physical contact of a man but in the end the challenge was not really there.
She reflected at full speed, Pylos was what could be closer today over his house and were looking past the shoal. In peacetime it was becoming embarrassing, too loved the people, too powerful and independent to be easily pushed from power, too young and new to the region so that we know what she planned and whether it was a threat or not. For some advisers Pylos it should be as menacing as the army beyond the walls. It bore these less fortunate, was there anyone here who thought the people or that it wanted it? He had to find another way out of this impasse.
His father should not even be aware of the situation there, she could not expect reinforcements and the city was not able to survive other week siege even with his help. She observed the noble
liudmarkiens around the table, dressed in satin and silk, covered with precious stones, a bodyguard for their color back. Even the young traitor had a bodyguard, a kind of muscle imposing mountain, the young man seemed so embarrassed in his presence he was unable to watch it. In the end, only man blond, Roland, denoted by what is a commoner like him among the great? She began to think that if she could eliminate the whole gang in front of her, the enemy would be left without command.
She nodded to Captain John, who leaned forward to hear what she had to say.
- Protects my body, whatever the price, take it all men and bring him to town when I finish. Is she whispered .
He hesitated, "all men" meant the bodyguards of the other advisers as well, leaving them helpless, but it was enough faithful to obey. He made a discreet nod and went back into position behind her. She leaves her
immaterial being run out of it for the first time this separation was not due to anger or pain but a simple desire on his part.
It fluttered in the banneret banneret, shaking up the heart of the first total shutdown, they hoquetèrent and collapsed. As head of the table, the guards at first believed to discomfort but when the head of the third knocked the table down dead, they understood. She then cut the flat of his hand, accelerating the work, excluding flesh like a sword through butter. Men fell like flies screaming. She put an end to many lives in his back while John cried
- For the Princess! That the blood flows.
Roland was the first to stand up and organize the troops. The other nobles were running for their lives, the bodyguard hesitated between fleeing or staying to fight this invisible enemy. They began to remove the prince, the young master being responsible for his protection while the other scatters. Roland grabbed a soldier by the collar and told him the militia of Pylos in a circle around his body. The city councilors cried, some called at the end of the massacres, others were stunned on their chairs to watch the carnage, she saw even a flee to the city by rolling up his robes. She wanted to catch
Prince but it was too far away, she could not reach it.
- JEAN! I beg you, my door closer.
She silently begged and screamed with all her might, throwing a cold wave to his patron. The man seemed to look at her a moment into his eyes and swallowed before launching his men
- Wear there, follow me!
And they went bravely to meet the enemy. Liudmarkiens soldiers began to arrive, although most remained undecided, too fearful to fight witchcraft with steel.
one leap forward, she caught the prince, she had the feeling of grabbing her soft silk garment but perhaps it was his own skin. She drew a sharp blow back. The pig had thought he was big as a vulgar tossed twig. The men who accompanied him turned in all directions, seeking the assailant without success.
She cried all his frustration
- Die carrion!
The man's eyes widened liquefy and his face, his skin slipped revealing the bone. He cried of course and most of the spectators watched helplessly as he was cut to pieces.
She laughed and cried together, she was jubilant as she disgusted herself so much savagery. Turning around she saw that his men battled farm, many had already given their lives against the enemy and they would take longer. Advisers survivors themselves, took their legs to their necks, some being pinned at full speed by rafters. So much the better, these opportunistic burst as it would give them a lesson. She began to the task, it was time to save John and his men.
